This tour is conducted on snow shoes in and around the snowy peaks of Hotham. It is designed by winter expedition enthusiasts for people wanting to do something rad not on skis or board in the alpine environment. The tour will give you the skills and knowledge needed to survive and thrive in the harsh Australian Alps Back Country.
The tour is a day long program and will cover;
- Navigation with electronic and non electronic devices
- Snow cave and shelter construction
- Camp construction and layout
- Route finding and selection
- Snow types and uses
- Self arrest
- Intro to crampons
- Emergency shelters
The Snow Skills Tour is designed to be accessible to anyone with a moderate to reasonable level of fitness and an interest in the Alpine Environment.

Moderate to very good level of fitness (Be able to walk with a full rucksack for a few hours constantly at a medium pace)
