Deep Lead gold deposits were first worked at Brandy Creek in the mid 1860s with the principal mine known as White’s claim. Over the years the claim changed hands several times and adjacent claims taken up. One of the richest was the Italian’s claim, one clean up alone was reported to have produced 900 ounces of gold. The 1880s were the peak period of operations on the Brandy Creek lead when the majority of hillside claims were taken over by the Cobungra Gold Mining Company.
